Celebrating 400 Years of Pichwai: Hyderabad to Host Parampara Exhibition & Workshops

Experience the Living Tradition of Pichwai in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is set to host a vibrant celebration of one of India’s most cherished devotional art forms. Parampara, an exhibition and workshop series by MeMeraki, will be held at the Crafts Council of Telangana (CCT Spaces), Banjara Hills, from September 27 to October 3.

The Art of Pichwai
Dating back over 400 years to the 17th century, Pichwai (meaning “that which hangs from the back”) originated in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. These intricate cloth scrolls were traditionally hung behind the shrine of Shrinathji, depicting devotional themes from Krishna’s life. Today, the art form has evolved, blending traditional iconography with contemporary aesthetics for modern homes.

Meet the Masters
The event will feature works by five distinguished artists, including Jayesh Sharma, a ninth-generation Pichwai painter whose family has been connected to the Shrinathji temple tradition for over four centuries. He will be joined by National Award-winning artists Dinesh Soni, Naveen Soni, Shehzaad Ali Sherani, and Trilok Soni.

Hands-On Workshops
For those eager to learn, Jayesh Sharma will conduct three beginner-friendly workshops during the event. Participants will learn the basics of Pichwai drawing and painting on A4 paper, taking home their own creation.

Exhibition Details
