Charles Schwab Opens Hyderabad Technology Centre, Strengthening Telangana’s Capital Markets GCC Ecosystem

Hyderabad: Financial services major Charles Schwab has officially entered India with the launch of a 3.45 lakh square feet technology capability centre in Hyderabad, marking a significant addition to the city’s expanding global capability centre (GCC) and financial technology ecosystem.

The new Schwab India centre will develop engineering, technology and operational capabilities to support Charles Schwab’s global operations, particularly its business in the United States. The company plans to expand its Hyderabad workforce to around 2,000 employees by the end of 2027.

The investment further strengthens Hyderabad’s position as a growing hub for capital-markets technology. The city has increasingly attracted global companies operating across brokerage, trading, investment management, wealth management, market infrastructure, risk management, analytics and cybersecurity.

Telangana IT Minister D Sridhar Babu highlighted Hyderabad’s growing role in supporting the technology infrastructure behind global financial markets. He said the city is moving beyond the traditional BFSI GCC model towards developing advanced technology and engineering capabilities for the international capital-markets industry.

According to Babu, Hyderabad is home to nine of the world’s top 10 brokerage and trading institutions and has a broader ecosystem of more than 475 GCCs. He noted that the city provides global companies with access to a large pool of technology talent and specialised capabilities.

“What sets Hyderabad apart is that we are moving well beyond the shared services and support operations that traditionally defined this sector,” Babu said, adding that while Mumbai remains India’s trading and brokerage capital, Hyderabad is increasingly developing the technology that powers trading and brokerage operations globally.

Schwab India will support Charles Schwab’s US business through technology development, engineering and operational functions. The Hyderabad centre will focus on designing, developing and delivering technology solutions for the company’s US operations and the millions of customers who use its digital platforms.

Pradeep Menon, Country Head and Managing Director of Schwab India, said Hyderabad’s strong technology talent base, infrastructure and established GCC ecosystem were key factors behind the company’s decision to establish its India operations in the city.

He said Schwab India represents an important step in Charles Schwab’s next phase of global growth, with Hyderabad providing the technology capabilities needed to support the company’s expanding global operations.

The establishment of Charles Schwab’s Hyderabad technology centre is expected to create new opportunities for technology professionals while further consolidating Telangana’s position as a preferred destination for financial services and capital-markets GCCs.
