How Much Land Does a Human Really Need? Krishna’s Timeless Message from the Gita-Judge-Vijaysen-Reddy

Hyderabad, February 17, 2026:
Human suffering largely arises from limitless desire. Reflecting on the profound question, “How much land does a human truly need?”, Justice Vijay Sen Reddy emphasized that the teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita remain deeply relevant to modern society.

Addressing the philosophical message delivered by Krishna to Arjuna, Justice Sen Reddy noted that the Gita is not merely a scripture for war but a timeless guide for ethical living. He warned that unchecked greed—driven by the pursuit of land, wealth, and resources—has severely disrupted nature’s balance.

Growing Divide Between Rich and Poor

Justice Sen Reddy expressed concern over the increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, while vast sections of society struggle to meet even basic needs. He stated that if human desires were limited to genuine necessities and greed were restrained, social inequality would naturally decline.

The Gita’s Message for Today

Quoting the essence of Krishna’s teachings, he said that principles such as self-control, detachment, and duty (Karma Yoga) are more relevant today than ever before. Ultimately, a human needs only a few feet of land at the end of life; everything beyond that is merely an expansion of desire.

True development, he concluded, lies in living in harmony with nature. Ignoring this wisdom, he cautioned, will leave future generations facing severe ecological and social crises.
