From IIT Hyderabad to Japan: Student Builds AI Tool for Indian Industries, Secures Global Opportunity

A remarkable success story from IIT Hyderabad is inspiring students and aspiring entrepreneurs across the country. Guna Shekhar Reddy, a final-year M.Tech student in Techno-Entrepreneurship, has transformed perseverance, innovation, and industry-focused research into an international career opportunity in Japan.

After completing his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Vasavi College of Engineering, Guna Shekhar secured admission to IIT Hyderabad through the GATE examination. He credits his success not to extraordinary talent but to unwavering consistency, saying that regular effort and determination helped him overcome average mock test scores.

During his time at IIT Hyderabad, he significantly improved his academic performance, raising his CGPA from 7.27 in undergraduate studies to 9.51 in his postgraduate program. His dedication earned him the prestigious Academic and Co-curricular Excellence Award, recognizing his outstanding achievements both inside and outside the classroom.

As part of his M.Tech thesis, Guna Shekhar developed an AI-powered hybrid Physics-Machine Learning platform designed to improve cold-forging die design for India’s manufacturing sector. The tool aims to help Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) detect design defects early, reducing costly simulations, saving valuable time, and improving productivity.

The innovative project has already entered industry validation, with manufacturing companies testing the platform using real-world design data. His research also received an IITH_BUILD grant of ₹20,000 after being selected from more than 100 project pitches.

Reflecting on his journey, Guna Shekhar says that consistency, curiosity, and the courage to approach industries directly played a major role in turning his idea into a practical solution. His inspiring journey from IIT Hyderabad to securing a job opportunity in Japan showcases how innovation, hard work, and determination can open doors to global success.
