Four Sub-Registrar Office hubs to come up across Hyderabad

Four Sub-Registrar Office hubs to come up across Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Following a recent state government directive asking all departments to vacate rented premises, the Stamps and Registration Department has stepped up efforts to construct integrated Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) hubs at four locations in the city.

The proposed integrated hubs, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, will accommodate up to 11 SROs, sources said. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for one of the four hubs in Hyderabad on Monday.

According to officials, three integrated hubs are planned within Hyderabad district, to be located at Malakpet, Banjara Hills, and Bowenpally.

The Malakpet cluster will bring together the Ajampura, Charminar, and Doodhbowli SROs. The Banjara Hills cluster will house the Banjara Hills, Golconda, and SR Nagar offices. Meanwhile, the Bowenpally cluster will integrate the Red Hills, Chikkadpally, Bowenpally, Marredpally, and Secunderabad SROs, streamlining registration services across the city.

Officials familiar with the developments said the three hubs together handle a substantial portion of the city’s property registrations and generate several hundred crores of rupees annually in stamp duty and registration revenue.

Sources added that Rangareddy district, which has witnessed the fastest growth in real estate transactions, is also set to receive four integrated SRO clusters to cater to the rising demand.

The largest integrated hub is proposed at Gachibowli, which will bring together the Rangareddy registration office and the Serilingampally, Gandipet, and Rajendranagar SROs. Officials said this cluster currently handles the highest volume of registrations in the region.

In addition, three more hubs are planned in Rangareddy district at Koheda–Sahebnagar, Mankhal, and Kothapet, integrating SROs across the eastern, southern, and central parts of the district. According to sources, these locations were chosen to distribute workload evenly and ease pressure on offices with heavy footfall.

In Medchal–Malkajgiri district, plans are underway for three integrated clusters at Kandlakoya, Mallapur, and Kukatpally. Officials noted that Kukatpally and Mallapur, in particular, witness a high volume of registrations due to dense residential and commercial development in nearby areas.

Meanwhile, Sangareddy district is proposed to have a single integrated hub at Patancheru, combining the Patancheru SRO with the Sangareddy registration office. Officials said the Patancheru belt has emerged as a major industrial and housing corridor, making it an ideal location for a high-capacity registration centre.

17 Hyderabad Students Build Payload for Upcoming ISRO Launch

The students of Blue Blocks Montessori School have named their payload Project SBB-1 (Satellite Blue Blocks-1), which has now received official clearance from ISRO for launch aboard the PSLV-C62 mission.

Hyderabad: A team of 17 students aged between 12 and 15 from Hyderabad has achieved a remarkable milestone by designing and building a flight-ready CubeSat payload, scheduled for launch aboard an ISRO mission on January 12 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR), Sriharikota.

The students of Blue Blocks Montessori School have named their payload Project SBB-1 (Satellite Blue Blocks-1). The project has received official clearance from ISRO and will fly on the PSLV-C62 mission.

Setting their work apart from conventional school-level STEM projects, the students independently designed, assembled, and programmed the CubeSat payload. They used commercial off-the-shelf sensors, soldered electronic components, and developed firmware capable of transmitting real-time telemetry. While experts from Take Me 2 Space offered mentorship and technical guidance, the entire engineering effort—from hardware integration to coding—was carried out by the students themselves..

Debugging the code when the sensors failed to communicate was the most challenging part. We didn’t want to just witness a launch—we wanted our work to fly on the rocket,” said one of the students.

The project was developed at the Blue Blocks Micro Research Institute using a learning framework known as ‘Structural Autonomy,’ which promotes independent problem-solving with minimal adult supervision. Emphasising the achievement, co-founder Pavan Goyal said, “They are not engineers of the future; they are flight-ready engineers today.

The Blue Blocks initiative has earned international recognition, with the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo inviting co-founder Pavan Goyal to present the programme’s methodology. In addition, the students are set to deliver a technical review at the AMI Conference in Mexico, showcasing their work on a global stage.

    About the PSLV-C62 Mission

The PSLV-C62 mission will carry the EOS-N1 Earth observation satellite, along with 15 co-passenger satellites from India and international partners. The mission will also feature a technology demonstration of the Kestrel Initial Technology Demonstrator (KID), a compact prototype re-entry vehicle developed by a Spanish startup.

ISRO’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) is regarded as the organisation’s most reliable launch system, having completed 63 successful missions. Its legacy includes landmark launches such as Chandrayaan-1, the Mars Orbiter Mission, Aditya-L1, and Astrosat, and it holds a global record for deploying 104 satellites in a single mission in 2017.

Young minds explore gene cloning at CCMB

For a group of Hyderabad schoolchildren, the New Year began not with fireworks, but with microscopes and lab benches. Students from Classes 8, 9, and 10, representing both government and private schools, conducted gene cloning experiments at the CSIR–Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) for the first time as part of the Young Innovators Programme (YIP).

The five-day programme offered participants a rare opportunity to experience life as scientists. “Five of us from our school took the entrance exam. On the first day, we observed fruit flies and zebrafish. Later, we worked on bacterial cultures and polymerase chain reaction,” said Yash Ashwatha P, a Class 10 student from Telangana Model School, Suryapet.

Selected as the only government school student in this year’s cohort, Yash added that while he aspires to become a civil engineer, the programme has also encouraged him to seriously consider science-related courses in the future.

For many participants, the experience proved transformative. “We truly felt like scientists during these days. From observing bacterial growth to performing gene cloning, we gained microscopic insights into DNA and how these nearly invisible strands replicate,” said Nishka Joshi.

    J. Nathan, a Class 9 student from St Andrews School, said the programme broadened his understanding of how artificial intelligence can support experiments in chemistry and biology. “I already use AI tools such as Gama AI,” he added.

Another participant, Bal Soham Banerjee, noted that the practical sessions covered topics typically taught in Classes 11 and 12, going far beyond the limited textbook exposure available at school.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr Somdatta Karak, Senior Scientist and Head of Science Communication at CSIR-CCMB, said the 13th edition of the Young Innovators Programme (YIP) included 25 to 30 students. “This year, our focus was on hands-on training in molecular biology, including gene cloning. Due to laboratory capacity, participation is limited, but we hope to explore ways to include more students next year if adequate funding becomes available,” she said.

Apple to double Air Pods production in India as Foxconn expands Hyderabad plant

Foxconn’s expansion of its Hyderabad facility and the plan to double AirPods production is a key part of Apple’s strategy to reduce its reliance on China and strengthen its manufacturing base in India. The investment is a direct response to global supply chain challenges, geopolitical risks, and Apple’s push to diversify its production footprint.

By early 2026, the Hyderabad facility is set to double its output, increasing AirPods production from 100,000 units per month to 200,000. This move will not only boost Apple’s capacity but also solidify India’s growing role in its global supply chain. Foxconn is even transferring advanced machinery from its Vietnam plants to support this ramp-up, with the company planning to retool five production lines for future AirPods models.

The expansion isn’t just about scaling up; it also means adding around 3,000 new jobs, growing the workforce from 2,000 to 5,000. This aligns with Apple’s broader vision to turn India into a key manufacturing hub for not only AirPods but also accessories and components for other brands.

Apple’s commitment to India has grown steadily over the years, with the country now playing a significant role in its production of products beyond iPhones, such as AirPods and other accessories. The investment also helps Apple mitigate risks tied to supply chain disruptions—like earlier this year, when China’s export restrictions on rare earth minerals temporarily impacted AirPods production.

This expansion in Hyderabad is part of a larger effort to turn India into a major audio manufacturing hub, and it complements another initiative in Tamil Nadu, where Jabil is building a new facility to produce AirPods cases. With this growing capacity, India’s position in Apple’s global supply chain is only set to increase.

In the long term, the move to India isn’t just about short-term production needs but a strategic shift to reduce Apple’s dependency on China. What do you think this means for India’s tech industry in the coming years?

Millet Mothers to serve sustainable livelihoods for women in Hyderabad

Hyderabad is set to launch an innovative initiative aimed at promoting health and wellness in the corporate world. The Millets National Media Portal, as part of its national mission “One Millet Meal Every Day for Every Individual,” has rolled out a program that connects corporate offices with trained Millet Mothers, who will provide freshly prepared, nutritious millet-based lunches to employees.

This move follows the success of the Millet Mothers Program, a collaboration between the Millets National Media Portal and MBF (Millets – The Best Food). Under this program, 100 Millet Mothers in Hyderabad have been trained in over 20 millet-based recipes that meet international standards for taste, nutrition, and quality. The training was led by National Millet Coach Pooja Lakhotia, with support from experts like Dr. Monica Sravanti, Dr. Giridhar, and Millet Mothers Coordinator Madhuri.

The official launch took place at Essjay Fortune Community Hall in Begumpet, Hyderabad, with Prasanna Srinivasa Sarakadam, Chairman of MBF, highlighting the dual goals of the program: improving employee wellness and empowering women. “When employees eat nutritious food, their productivity increases. They think better, work better, and live better. Our Millet Mothers initiative ensures that every meal not only nourishes the body but also empowers the women preparing it,” Sarakadam said.

The Millet Lunch Program is now open to corporate partnerships across Hyderabad, catering to companies of all sizes—small, medium, and large. The program offers freshly cooked, easy-to-digest millet-based meals that promote both mental and physical well-being. Actress Laya, the brand ambassador for the Millet Mothers initiative, emphasized the program’s commitment to healthy living and women’s empowerment, pointing out that millets are not only good for health but also support grassroots economic development by creating income opportunities for women.

This initiative is a win-win for both employees and the community, combining better health with social impact.

Hyderabad Police Chief Condemns Drunk Driving as ‘Terrorism’ After Deadly Bus Fire in Kurnool

HYDERABAD / KURNOOL — In the wake of a devastating bus fire in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, which claimed at least 20 lives, V.C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police in Hyderabad, has issued a sharp condemnation of drunk driving, calling those who drive under the influence “terrorists”.

The incident involved a private sleeper bus travelling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, which collided with a motorcycle on the highway in the early hours of Friday. The bike, ridden by a man under the influence of alcohol, was reportedly dragged by the bus before his vehicle’s fuel tank ignited, setting off the fire that engulfed the bus and killed the passengers.

In a post on the social media platform X, Mr Sajjanar said: “Drunk drivers are terrorists. Period. Drunk drivers are terrorists and their actions are nothing short of acts of terror on our roads.” He described the Kurnool tragedy not as a mere accident but as “a criminal act of negligence that annihilated entire families within seconds.”

He emphasised that under his jurisdiction there will be no leniency or exception for those caught driving while intoxicated. “Every single person caught driving under the influence will face the full force of law. There will be no mercy for those who endanger innocent lives,” he said.

Investigators have since confirmed that the motorcyclist was driving while drunk and had earlier refuelled his bike just minutes before the crash. The bike’s headlight was found to be non-functional and the rider lost control before the fatal collision.

The bus driver has been arrested in connection with the incident and further investigations are underway into the sequence of events that triggered the blaze

This tragedy has reignited calls for stricter enforcement of laws against driving under the influence and stricter penalties for those who risk public safety on the roads.
