Surveys Paint Conflicting Pictures in Jubilee Hills Bypoll Battle — Hyderabad, November 4

Hyderabad: The high-stakes Jubilee Hills bypoll has turned into a contest not just for votes but for narrative dominance, as rival surveys paint sharply contrasting pictures of the electoral mood.

The political battlefield is divided between two surveys — the KK Survey, which indicates that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is regaining lost ground, and the Lok Poll Survey, which gives the Congress a comfortable lead.

This duel of data has added a new dimension to the campaign, fueling morale within both camps while leaving voters guessing which way the wind is actually blowing.

With polling day fast approaching, the bypoll has evolved into a prestige contest for all major parties. Fiery speeches, social media offensives, and verbal duels among leaders have turned the Jubilee Hills election into a test of strength, strategy, and perception.

According to the latest KK Surveys and Strategies report, the BRS candidate is locked in a tight race but enjoys a slight edge, a finding that has visibly energized the party’s cadre. The pink party has seized on the survey results, flooding social media with posts celebrating the perceived momentum shift.

In contrast, the Lok Poll Survey offers a rosier picture for the ruling Congress, projecting a clear lead for the party’s candidate. Party insiders say the survey attributes the advantage to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s popularity and the government’s recent welfare schemes in the constituency.

As the campaign enters its final stretch, both parties are doubling down on door-to-door outreach and targeted messaging, hoping to convert perception into votes. For now, Jubilee Hills remains a battleground not just of ballots — but of belief.

By Sunil Mungara

Hyderabad:
Voters in the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency heading to the polls on November 11 will be able to safely deposit their mobile phones before entering polling stations. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Election Wing is setting up secure mobile phone deposit centres outside all polling stations, in line with Election Commission of India (ECI) guidelines.

The facility aims to assist voters, particularly senior citizens and women, ensuring convenience and security on polling day.

A senior GHMC official deputed for the bypoll said that voters must switch off their mobile phones before entering the polling station and hand them over to volunteers stationed at the mobile phone deposit counters.

Voters will receive a token in exchange for their phone, which they can use to reclaim it after casting their vote and exiting the polling station.

The GHMC has assured that adequate staff and security measures will be in place to manage the process smoothly and prevent any inconvenience to the public.

The initiative is part of the civic body’s broader efforts to ensure a transparent, orderly, and voter-friendly polling experience in Jubilee Hills during the by-election.

Jubilee Hills by-election: Kamma community extends support to Congress

Hyderabad, Oct 28:
In a major boost to the ruling Congress party ahead of the upcoming Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, members of the Kamma community have announced their full support to the party.

Leaders from the community, which holds a strong social and economic presence in areas like Ameerpet, Kukatpally, and Serilingampally, met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday and conveyed their support, while also placing a few demands before the government.

During the meeting, the community leaders urged the CM to install a statue of legendary actor and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao at Maitri Vanam in Ameerpet. They also appealed to the government to provide due representation to the community in nominated posts.

According to a press release from the Chief Minister’s Office, the Kamma community assured that the Congress candidate Naveen Yadav would win the Jubilee Hills by-election with a huge majority.

The by-election, necessitated by the demise of former BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath, is expected to be a high-stakes contest for the ruling Congress, which failed to win any seat in the Greater Hyderabad area in the 2023 Assembly elections.

While the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has fielded Maganti Gopinath’s wife as its candidate, the BJP has once again given its ticket to Lankala Deepak Reddy, who had contested unsuccessfully in 2023. Political analysts expect a triangular fight between the Congress, BRS, and BJP this time.

In the 2023 Assembly polls, Gopinath secured 80,549 votes, followed by Congress’ Mohd. Azharuddin with 64,212 votes, and BJP’s Deepak Reddy with over 25,000 votes. AIMIM’s candidate Rasheed Farazuddin finished fourth with 7,848 votes.

The bypoll outcome is seen as a litmus test for the Congress government, as it aims to strengthen its urban base in Hyderabad ahead of future elections.

Right to Information, RTI

RTI stands for “Right to Information.” It is a fundamental right provided to citizens in many countries, including India, to access information held by public authorities and government bodies. The main objective of the Right to Information Act is to promote transparency and accountability in the functioning of the government and ensure that citizens are well-informed about its activities.

Key features of the Right to Information Act in India:

  1. Application Process: Any citizen of India can submit a written request (known as an application) to the relevant public authority seeking information.
  2. Timelines: The public authority must respond to the request within a specific time frame, usually within 30 days. In certain cases, this period can be extended by another 30 days if the information sought is complex or involves a third party.
  3. Types of Information: The Act covers a wide range of information held by public authorities, including documents, records, memos, emails, opinions, press releases, and more.
  4. Exemptions: While the Right to Information Act promotes transparency, it also includes certain exemptions to protect sensitive information that could potentially harm national security, personal privacy, commercial interests, etc.
  5. Fees: The Act allows public authorities to charge a nominal fee for providing information, which may vary depending on the type and format of the information.
  6. Appellate Authorities: If the applicant is not satisfied with the response or if the information is denied, they can file an appeal with the designated appellate authority within the specified time.
  7. Public Authorities Covered: The Act applies to all government departments, ministries, public sector undertakings, and other organizations that are substantially funded by the government.

The Right to Information Act has been a significant tool for empowering citizens to hold the government accountable and ensuring transparency in public administration. It has led to increased public awareness, improved governance, and greater participation of citizens in the democratic process.
