Ugadi is the traditional New Year festival of Telugu and Kannada people, celebrated mainly in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and parts of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

The word Ugadi comes from the Sanskrit “Yuga + Adi”, meaning “the beginning of a new era.” It marks the first day of the Chaitra month in the Hindu lunar calendar (March–April).
