36-Hour Water Supply Disruption in Parts of Hyderabad on March 7–8

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced a 36-hour disruption in drinking water supply in several areas of the city from 8:00 AM on March 7 to 8:00 PM on March 8.

According to an official statement released on Thursday, the interruption is due to replacement of high-tension (HT) electrical panels and pipeline repair works at the Manjira Phase-3 Peddapur Pump House, a key facility that supplies drinking water to Hyderabad.

Reason for the Disruption

The existing 35-year-old HT electrical panels at the pump house are being removed and replaced with new panels. In addition, maintenance work will be carried out on major pipelines connected to the pumping system.

The works include:

  • Replacement of air valves in the 1600 mm diameter pumping main pipeline from Peddapur to Singapore.
  • Replacement of air vents in the 2000 mm diameter gravity main pipeline from Singapore to Peddapur.

Areas Likely to Be Affected

Water supply will be completely stopped or provided at low pressure in several areas during the maintenance period. Affected localities include:

  • Manikonda
  • Kokapet
  • Narsingi
  • Manchirevula
  • Shaikpet reservoir supply zone

Water supply to the Shaikpet reservoir will be completely halted, while the Bhojagutta area will receive water at low pressure. Areas covered under Transmission I and II pipelines will experience a complete interruption in water supply.

Advisory for Residents

The HMWSSB has requested residents in the affected areas to store adequate water in advance and use it sparingly during the 36-hour disruption.

Authorities said normal water supply is expected to resume after the completion of the maintenance works on March 8 evening.
