Legendary Actress B. Saroja Devi Fulfills Noble Final Wish with Eye Donation
Bengaluru, July 15, 2025 – The South Indian film industry mourns the loss of one of its most iconic stars, B. Saroja Devi, who passed away early Monday morning at the age of 87 at her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru. The veteran actress had been battling age-related health issues in recent years.
Her passing marks the end of a golden era in Indian cinema. B. Saroja Devi was celebrated for her elegance, powerful performances, and immense contribution to films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi. In a final act of compassion and service to society, B. Saroja Devi’s eyes were donated to Narayana Nethralaya shortly after her death, fulfilling her long-held wish. Doctors at the eye bank confirmed that the actress had formally registered for eye donation five years ago. She had personally expressed her desire during a hospital visit and completed all the necessary procedures.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Rajkumar from Narayana Nethralaya stated that both corneas were in healthy condition and will soon be transplanted to restore vision in two individuals. “This gesture reflects her extraordinary humanity,” he added.
Her son, Gowtham, also confirmed the donation, sharing his mother’s heartfelt commitment to making a difference even after her passing. “She always believed in giving back. Donating her eyes was something she wanted to do wholeheartedly,” he said.
