TheraNym Biologics Opens ₹1,200 Crore Manufacturing Facility Near Hyderabad, Creating 1,500+ Jobs

Telangana Strengthens Life Sciences Leadership with Major Biologics Investment

In a significant boost to Telangana’s rapidly growing Life Sciences sector, TheraNym Biologics, a subsidiary of Aurobindo Pharma, has inaugurated its state-of-the-art ₹1,200 crore biologics manufacturing facility at Borpatla village in Hathnoora Mandal, Sangareddy district, near Hyderabad. The facility was formally inaugurated by Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on June 3, in the presence of Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha and other dignitaries.

The newly launched facility marks a major milestone in Telangana’s efforts to position itself as a global hub for pharmaceutical and biotechnology manufacturing. The project is expected to generate employment opportunities for more than 1,500 local youth while strengthening the state’s reputation as a preferred destination for Life Sciences investments.

Advanced Facility for Life-Saving Medicines

The TheraNym Biologics facility has been designed to manufacture advanced biologic medicines used in the treatment of cancer and other life-threatening diseases. These high-value products will cater to both domestic and international markets, including the United States and other regulated global markets.

Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the facility features:

  • 15 KL bioreactors
  • Advanced downstream processing suites
  • Aseptic fill-finish manufacturing capabilities
  • Modern quality control laboratories
  • Large-scale biologics production infrastructure

The facility is positioned to support the supply chains of leading global pharmaceutical companies and contribute significantly to the growing demand for biologic therapies worldwide.

Strategic Partnership with MSD

TheraNym Biologics is playing a crucial role in Aurobindo Pharma’s expansion into the global biologics contract manufacturing sector. The company had earlier entered into a Master Service Agreement with Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD), one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, for the contract manufacturing of biologic products.

Under the agreement, TheraNym will manufacture biologic products and supply them to MSD, supporting both domestic and export requirements, subject to regulatory approvals and customer needs.

The partnership highlights Telangana’s growing importance in the global pharmaceutical supply chain and reinforces confidence among multinational healthcare companies investing in India.

Further Expansion Planned

Aurobindo Pharma has also announced plans for an additional greenfield expansion project through TheraNym Biologics. The proposed Unit-2 facility will house a large-scale mammalian drug substance manufacturing unit with a total bioreactor capacity of 60 KL.

The expansion project is expected to attract an additional investment of approximately $150–175 million, further strengthening Telangana’s biotechnology manufacturing ecosystem and creating additional employment opportunities.

Telangana Emerging as a Global Life Sciences Hub

Speaking at the inauguration, Telangana Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu emphasized that the arrival of TheraNym Biologics would further enhance the global recognition of the “Made in Telangana” brand in the Life Sciences sector.

The Telangana government continues to focus on attracting world-class investments in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical devices, and research-driven industries. With major investments like TheraNym Biologics, the state is steadily strengthening its position among the leading Life Sciences destinations globally.

The facility represents a significant step forward in advancing healthcare innovation, boosting exports, generating employment, and supporting the production of critical biologic medicines for patients worldwide.
