HPS Felicitates Alumnus Prem Watsa During School Visit

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Public School (HPS) felicitated distinguished alumnus Prem Watsa, Chairman of Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited and a member of the HPS Class of 1965, during his visit to the institution.

The felicitation celebrated Watsa’s longstanding association with his alma mater and his continued support for the school. The occasion also marked the foundation stone ceremony for a new Junior School Block, which will be named in honour of his father, M.C. Watsa, who served as Principal of The Hyderabad Public School from 1969 to 1972.

Gusti J. Noria, President of The Hyderabad Public School Society, said the institution was proud to welcome back Watsa, whose journey from the school’s classrooms to global leadership reflects the values and spirit of HPS.

Speaking on the occasion, Prem Watsa said returning to The Hyderabad Public School was always special for him. He recalled that his years at HPS played an important role in shaping his life and added that the school has continued to remain an important part of his journey.

The naming of the new Junior School Block after M.C. Watsa also highlights the enduring connection between the Watsa family and The Hyderabad Public School. The new facility is expected to further strengthen the school’s infrastructure and support its future generations of students. :::

Summer Holidays Extended for Schools in TelanganaSchools to Reopen on June 15 Instead of June 12

Hyderabad: The Telangana School Education Department has extended the summer holidays for all government and private schools across the state. As per the revised schedule, schools that were originally set to reopen on June 12, 2026, will now resume classes on June 15, 2026.

The decision was taken after the government received representations from various stakeholders requesting a change in the reopening date. Since June 13 and June 14 fall on the Second Saturday and Sunday, respectively, the government felt it would be more practical to reopen schools on Monday, June 15.

📌 Working Day Announced to Compensate for Lost Academic Time

To ensure that the prescribed instructional days in the Academic Calendar 2026–27 are maintained, the School Education Department has declared July 11 (Second Saturday) as a regular working day for all government and private schools across Telangana.

🎓 Applies to All Schools in Telangana

The revised schedule applies to all schools under the School Education Department. Regional Joint Directors and District Educational Officers have been instructed to communicate the updated reopening date and working day schedule to all schools under their jurisdiction.

The move is expected to provide a smoother transition into the new academic year while ensuring that academic activities remain on track.
