Hyderabad Equestrian Abbas Khan Honoured With Bharat Gaurav Youth Award

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-based equestrian Abbas Khan has been honoured with the prestigious Bharat Gaurav (Youth) Award, becoming the first Indian showjumping athlete to receive the honour.

The award was presented to the 21-year-old athlete at a distinguished ceremony in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd). The recognition honours Abbas for his achievements in equestrian sport and his contribution to representing India on the international showjumping stage.

Abbas Khan’s nomination highlights his remarkable 17-year journey in equestrian sport. He is recognised as the youngest Indian rider to consistently compete and secure strong results at the demanding 1.45m–1.50m international level.

Over the past five years, Abbas has represented India across seven European countries — Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Austria and Slovakia. He has competed in international events ranging from CSI-1 to CSI-4 and CSIU-25 ‘A’ levels, recording podium finishes and several top-10 results at prestigious venues.

His international performances have helped strengthen India’s presence in the global showjumping arena, making the Bharat Gaurav Youth Award a significant recognition of his sporting journey and achievements.

The Bharat Gaurav Award recognises individuals and organisations that demonstrate exceptional excellence, public service and sustained commitment towards India’s progress. Abbas Khan’s achievement adds another milestone to Hyderabad’s growing contribution to Indian sport.
