Fed Up With Potholes, Hyderabad Man Lies on Road in Protest

Hyderabad: Frustrated by a pothole-ridden road, a man reportedly lay down in the middle of the street near Gowliguda Bus Stand on Tuesday, September 1, bringing traffic to a standstill and attracting the attention of commuters and passers-by.

The protester, identified as Feroz, said the stretch had remained in poor condition for several days and was posing a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians. A video showing him lying on the road subsequently circulated widely on social media.

Two policemen reached the spot and attempted to persuade Feroz to end the protest, as the demonstration was disrupting traffic movement. They reportedly assured him that the damaged road would be repaired by the following morning.

However, Feroz remained unconvinced, arguing that the issue had persisted for too long and could not be resolved with a temporary overnight patch. He called for proper and lasting road repairs instead of repeated short-term fixes.

The protest comes amid growing complaints about potholes across parts of southern Hyderabad following recent rains. Two-wheeler riders have particularly faced difficulties while navigating damaged roads, according to local residents.

Residents have also raised concerns about roads near the Puranapul cremation ground, Jalpally and Khaja Mansion Junction in Masab Tank, where similar complaints have been reported.

Locals are now questioning the effectiveness and durability of pothole repairs carried out by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). Residents say that several repaired stretches deteriorate again after subsequent rainfall, leaving commuters to deal with the same hazards repeatedly.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over road maintenance and the need for more durable solutions to Hyderabad’s recurring pothole problem.
