Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy TIMS Hospital Opens in Hyderabad, Bringing Advanced Super-Specialty Healthcare to the Public

Hyderabad: Telangana has taken a major step forward in strengthening its public healthcare infrastructure with the inauguration of the Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar, Hyderabad. The hospital was inaugurated on August 17, 2026, at 4:30 PM by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The new TIMS hospital is being positioned as a major government healthcare institution focused on providing advanced super-specialty medical treatment at affordable costs. The facility has been developed with modern infrastructure, advanced diagnostic equipment and specialised departments aimed at treating complex and critical medical conditions.

A Major Public Healthcare Facility

Spread across approximately 22.6 acres, the hospital has a built-up area of around 11.70 lakh square feet. It has a total capacity of 1,082 beds, including 300 dedicated ICU beds, making it one of the significant additions to Telangana’s public healthcare infrastructure.

The hospital has been designed as an integrated medical campus, with facilities for diagnosis, surgery, critical care, specialised treatment and rehabilitation. It includes 31 major operation theatres and six minor operation theatres, enabling doctors to handle a wide range of routine, emergency and complex surgical procedures.

The estimated cost of the project is around ₹1,070 crore to ₹1,126 crore. The facility was developed by Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.

Six Centres of Excellence

One of the key highlights of Dr MCR TIMS is its focus on specialised healthcare through six Centres of Excellence. These centres are aimed at strengthening treatment and research in some of the most critical areas of medicine.

The Centres of Excellence focus on:

  • Organ Transplantation
  • Cardiac Sciences
  • Oncology
  • Neurosciences
  • Nephrology
  • Trauma Care

These specialised centres are expected to provide patients with access to advanced procedures and multidisciplinary medical teams under one roof.

The hospital’s focus on cardiac care, renal treatment, transplantation, cancer care, neurological disorders and trauma management is particularly significant because these conditions often require highly specialised doctors, advanced equipment and intensive-care facilities.

Advanced AI-Enabled Pneumatic Tube System

A major technological feature of the new hospital is its AI-enabled pneumatic tube system.

The system has been designed to rapidly transport blood samples, medicines, medical reports and emergency supplies between different sections of the hospital. It connects wards with laboratories, the pharmacy, blood bank and other critical service areas.

According to health officials, the system can transport materials within approximately one to two minutes. Such rapid movement can help reduce waiting times for laboratory investigations and emergency medicines while also reducing the possibility of contamination during manual transportation.

For a large hospital with more than a thousand beds, quick movement of samples and medicines can play an important role in improving coordination between different departments and supporting faster clinical decision-making.

Extensive Diagnostic Infrastructure

Dr MCR TIMS has been equipped with a wide range of modern diagnostic facilities. The hospital has 30 clinical departments supported by an extensive laboratory network.

Its laboratory infrastructure includes:

  • 17 pathology laboratories
  • 12 microbiology laboratories
  • 10 biochemistry laboratories
  • 5 specialised laboratories

The hospital’s advanced diagnostic equipment includes a 3.0 Tesla MRI scanner, a 128-slice CT scanner, an advanced mammography unit and five X-ray machines.

The availability of these facilities within a government hospital is expected to improve access to advanced diagnostic services, particularly for patients who may otherwise have to depend on private diagnostic centres.

Cardiac and Cancer Care

The hospital also includes two catheterisation laboratories, strengthening its ability to provide specialised cardiac services.

The facility is designed to handle patients requiring advanced cardiac diagnosis and treatment, along with emergency and critical-care support.

For cancer patients, the hospital has a linear accelerator-based radiotherapy facility. The availability of advanced radiotherapy infrastructure within a government medical institution is expected to improve access to cancer treatment for patients who face financial difficulties.

Focus on Affordable Super-Specialty Treatment

A central objective behind the development of TIMS hospitals is to expand access to specialised healthcare through the public healthcare system.

Complex medical conditions such as heart disease, cancer, kidney disorders, neurological conditions, organ failure and serious trauma often involve significant treatment costs. By strengthening government hospitals with modern equipment and specialised medical departments, the state aims to provide patients with high-end medical services without placing the same financial burden associated with private healthcare.

The Sanathnagar TIMS facility is therefore expected to become an important referral centre for patients requiring advanced treatment from Hyderabad as well as other parts of Telangana.

Strengthening Telangana’s Healthcare Network

The inauguration of Dr MCR TIMS represents an important development in Telangana’s healthcare sector. With more than 1,000 beds, 300 ICU beds, multiple operation theatres, specialised laboratories and Centres of Excellence, the facility has been designed to manage both routine and highly complex medical cases.

The hospital’s combination of advanced technology, specialised departments and critical-care infrastructure is expected to strengthen the state’s capacity to provide tertiary and super-specialty healthcare through the government system.

The facility is also expected to support better coordination between doctors, diagnostic departments, laboratories, pharmacies and emergency services through its integrated infrastructure.

A New Chapter for Public Healthcare

The opening of Dr MCR TIMS at Sanathnagar marks the beginning of a new phase in Telangana’s effort to expand advanced public healthcare. The hospital brings together modern medical technology, specialised treatment centres, critical-care facilities and a large bed capacity within a single government healthcare campus.

With its emphasis on cardiac sciences, oncology, transplantation, nephrology, neurosciences and trauma care, the hospital is expected to play a major role in treating patients with serious and complex health conditions.

As the first TIMS hospital to become operational, Dr MCR TIMS is likely to serve as an important model for the expansion of specialised government healthcare facilities across Telangana. Its success will depend not only on the infrastructure and technology but also on the availability of experienced medical professionals, efficient hospital administration and timely access to treatment.

The inauguration of the Sanathnagar facility therefore represents more than the opening of another hospital. It marks a significant investment in Telangana’s public healthcare infrastructure and an effort to make advanced super-specialty medical care more accessible and affordable to the people.
